EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Protesters halted over the Bridge of the Americas (BOTA) on Sunday, Aug. 4 to send a “support message” to those fighting for the freedom of Venezuela.
Our crews in Juarez interviewed one of the protesters who said Venezuelans don’t support a corrupt government.
“All Venezuelans who are inside and outside of Venezuela deserve a change. We deserve to have the opportunity to choose and advance in democracy with this new change, with the president we elected,” the protester said.

As we previously reported, President Nicolás Maduro claimed victory in Venezuela’s presidential election despite widespread allegations of election fraud.
The opposition claimed their opponent Edmundo Gonzalez is the winner and said they have tally sheets showing he won.
On Thursday, Aug. 1, the U.S. recognized Gonzalez as the official winner.
KTSM crews at the scene said BOTA was closed on both sides for approximately 40 minutes and resumed after protesters left.
