KTSM News – History of El Paso brought to life through augmented reality art exhibit

Posted on August 16, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The community is invited to a new augmented reality experience that will bring to life the history of El Paso.

The El Paso County Economic Development Department is teaming up with Augment El Paso to honor the art of Carlos Callejo and his mural “Our History.”

The opening of the experience will be from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse, located at 500 E. San Antonio St. in the third-floor atrium.

“Our History” has three large-scale walls that highlights key moments in El Paso’s history. This includes over 50 historical figures with vivid colors and dynamic movement, according to the County.

The way the mural will be brought to life is through the user’s smartphone or tablet. The augmented images become multisensory images with 3D models, graphical interfaces, and animations with music, according to the County.

The event will also feature Callejo’s artist statement through an oral history interview, according to the County.
