Posted on August 17, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — One person was killed and three people injured in a crash Saturday afternoon, Aug. 17 that closed part of New Mexico Highway 28.

Doña Ana County Sheriff Kim Stewart confirmed that one person was killed and three people were hurt and transported with unknown injuries in a crash involving two SUVs.

The crash happened along NM 28, which is the scenic backway between El Paso and Las Cruces, at Milepost 24 or Snow Road. The New Mexico Department of Transportation said that the highway is closed in both directions.

Southbound traffic is being diverted to Addington Road and to NM 478 or Main Street, NMDOT said.

Stewart did not know how long the highway would be closed for.
