EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso notified Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) its intent to terminate their existing in-network provider contract, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC) announced in a news release sent Wednesday, Aug. 21.
BCBSTX is Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso’s Teacher Retirement System of Texas provider, according to the news release.
TTUHSC said following a protracted negotiation process, they have been unable to come to a resolution with BCBSTX that would “equitably reimburse and allow medical providers to offer essential and critical patient care to the region’s residents.”
If the contract is terminated, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso specialists will no longer be considered in-network for BCBSTX plan holders. This includes HMO, PPO and Blue Advantage HMO, according to TTUHSC
TTUHSC said if both parties cannot come to a resolution, effective termination will be Oct. 7, for HMO and PPO plans and January 5, 2025, for Blue Advantage HMO.
“We value our relationship with BCBSTX and are hopeful that we can come to a resolution that meets the needs of both parties in the coming weeks. We acknowledge that our patients, Texas Tech Health El Paso employees and their families will be most impacted and are working diligently to minimize disruptions to care and provide clear and frequent communication. Our patients and employees are our top priority,” read the news release.
