EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 40-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stealing over $9,000 of jewelry on Thursday, Aug. 22, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSCO).
According to EPSCO, at roughly 6:05 p.m., deputies who were working off-duty security at Cielo Vista Mall were notified by employees of a local jewelry store that man was in their store, who had allegedly committed theft at another store earlier that day.
Employees told deputies that the man stole $9,000 worth of jewelry earlier that day, according to EPSCO.
The deputies initiated an active search for the man. Later, deputies were able to locate him and detain him after the suspect was attempting to leave the mall, according to EPSCO.
According to EPSCO, the subject was identified as Adan Gutierrez, 40. Deputies also learned that he was wearing the same clothing from the previous theft earlier that day.
Gutierrez was found to be in possession of the stolen jewelry, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies turned him over to El Paso Police detectives.
