EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — About $12,000 in prize money was awarded to the winners of the fourth annual Sun Bowl Adult Flag Football tournament over the weekend.

The tournament, which started with approximately 35 teams in its first year, has grown to 75 teams this year, competing in various divisions of play, including a coed division, women’s divisions, and five different men’s divisions, according to the Sun Bowl Association.

Teams and players from as far as San Antonio, Denver, and Wisconsin made the trip to El Paso to participate in this fun community event, the Sun Bowl Association said.

“It’s great that this event continues to grow year-after-year and we really believe that it will continue to grow, especially with the popularity of the sport now,” said Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas.  “We continue to work hard to reach our next goal of bringing in more teams from out of town, which will have a positive impact on our city and economy.”
