EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A family of three, including a three-month-old baby, was rescued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) last week after being stranded in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

According to Texas DPS, at roughly 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, Guadalupe Mountains National Park rangers were notified of a stranded family of hikers on the side of Guadalupe Peak.

Urgency struck when the family, nine miles into their hike and around 3 p.m., found themselves without water, leading to signs of dehydration and exhaustion.

The DPS Aircraft Operations Division played a crucial role in the rescue, as park rangers immediately alerted them and dispatched an airplane to locate the family.

The aircrew located the family and dispatched a helicopter to assist in the rescue and perform medical assessments of each family member.

According to DPS, a tactical flight officer helped the family get into the helicopter and transported them down the mountain to ground rescue teams for further medical care.
