KTSM News – CRRUA says it has passed latest arsenic testing

Posted on September 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Camino Real Regional Utility Authority (CRRUA) said it has passed voluntary monthly arsenic testing for August.

Test results released by Eurofins Environment Testing, a water testing lab certified by the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED,) show that arsenic levels at three of the four arsenic treatment facilities (ATF) operated by CRRUA are below the federal limit of 10 parts per billion (ppb.), the utility announced in a news release issued on Monday, Sept. 2.

CRRUA provides water and wastewater service to Sunland Park and Santa Teresa. It has been under fire for months about water quality issues and reports of discolored water at times.

During August testing, the Sunland Park facility was operating with one of two filter media changers offline while filter media was being replaced when the water samples were taken on Aug. 21, the utility said.

CRRUA excluded the Border Entry ATF from its voluntary monthly testing due to its continued meeting of all NMED requirements, the utility said.
