KTSM News – AAA: Gas prices decline with cooler temperatures

Posted on September 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — During a busy Labor day weekend for traveling, gas prices have gone down in Texas compared to this time last year.

According to AAA, the average cost per gallon in Texas is $2.88, down 56 cents from this time last year. In El Paso, the average cost per gallon is $3.34. At this time last year, the average was $3.91 in El Paso.

Daniel Armbruster, a spokesperson with AAA, said gas prices may continue to trend downward as the weather cools down.

“Certainly right now the trend is downward, and we’re going into a time of year where typically we see demand go down and we see the switch over to winter blend gasoline, which takes place in the September/October time frame. Winter blend gasoline is a little bit cheaper. Some of that cost savings gets passed on to the consumer,” Armbruster said.
