On Aug. 26, the parent reps were randomly selected during a live stream, according to LCPS.
The redistricting meetings will kick off this week and go through October:
Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
All three meetings will be recorded and available for the public to see on LCPS’s website.
The redistricting will help balance school populations and overcrowding, help with the opening of the brand-new Columbia Elementary campus and boost student population at Mayfield High School, the district said.
According to LCPS, the committee will be receiving feedback from community stakeholders and work with consultants to bring a solution to their feeder patterns. Once the alternatives are ready, they will be presented to LCPS’s Board of Education for discussion and possible approval.
The Redistricting Advisory Committee will also include special programs (special education, bilingual education, gifted and early childhood education) staff, students and two Board of Education members, according to LCPS.
