EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — You may have to pay more for things like ranger-guided hikes and night programs at White Sands National Park.
The National Park Service is proposing increases in what they are calling “amenity fees” for enhanced services such as ranger-guided hikes and the additon of a new evening program.
The proposed fee changes would be implemented in summer 2025.
Here are the proposed fee changes:

The proposed amenity fee increases are based on comparable fees for similar services at nearby museums and land managing agencies, according to a news release sent out by White Sands National Park.
Two programs will be offered after normal hours of operation — the Moonlight Hike and the Starry Night Astronomy Program. The proposed fee increases for these programs will provide for visitor and staff safety during the evening programs and while exiting the park, White Sands said.
The Lake Lucero Tour is offered in a remote location of the park. The proposed fee increases will allow the park to provide for improved visitor and staff safety and visitor services as well, White Sands said.
The Starry Night Astronomy Program will be a new program that will provide access the New Mexico night sky, White Sands said.
The proposed amenity fee for this new program will ensure that the park can provide appropriate staffing and supplies required to offer a safe and positive visitor experience, White Sands said.
