EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Socorro Independent School District (SISD) administrators participated in the Walk for Success event to engage with students who have not returned for the academic year.
The event happened from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 14 in SISD neighborhoods, the district said.
According to the district in a news release, SISD employees visited neighborhoods to talk with students and parents about opportunities available at schools and for completing their high school diploma.
“Sometimes students experience life challenges that discourage them from pursuing a high school diploma,” said SISD Director of Attendance Angelica Hernandez. “Our role as educators is to identify barriers students may encounter and motivate, encourage, and support them to overcome challenges.”
The Walk for Success event is phase two for administrators to discuss with students and families about how the district could better support them and encourage them to finish their education, according to SISD.
The first phase involved district administrators and counselors calling students and their families for personal one-on-one conversations.
