EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Marathon Petroleum awarded $75,000 in matching funds to nine local nonprofit organizations as part of the 9th annual El Paso Giving Day, the Paso Del Norte Community Foundation announced Tuesday, Oct. 1 in a news release.

The organizations included:

Desert Spoon Food Hub – $10,000

Kelly Center for Hunger Relief – $10,000

The funds awarded are intended to advance these organizations impact, mission and programs, according to the community foundation.

“We are grateful to Marathon Petroleum for the generous financial support they have pledged to local nonprofits through El Paso Giving Day,” Paso del Norte Community Foundation Chief Executive Officer Tracy J. Yellen said. “With their $75,000 in matching funds, Marathon Petroleum is inspiring philanthropy for nonprofit organizations and doubling their impact for hunger relief and the environment.”

The community foundation said El Paso Giving Day was founded in 2016 to “shine a light on the essential services of nonprofit organizations, ignite the spirit of giving and encourage new donors to give to local nonprofits and support the causes they care about.”

In addition, organizations gain access to workshops to help them develop their campaign including peer-to-peer fundraising, marketing and knowledge on how to maximize their resources and potential, according to the community foundation.

“Marathon Petroleum is committed to helping improve the quality of life in our region. We are proud to partner with the Paso del Norte Community Foundation and selected nonprofit organizations through El Paso Giving Day to support this important work in our community,” said V.J. Smith, corporate social responsibility and community relations at Marathon Petroleum Corp.

In 2023, over 7,000 unique donors supported 235 registered nonprofit organizations during El Paso Giving Day, according to the community foundation.

Nearly $1.32 million was raised, including over $250,000 in matching funds and $30,000 in incentive prizes.

El Paso Giving Day will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17. To register or for more information on the event, visit www.elpasogivingday.org.
