El Paso Matters – Soar and give more this El Paso Giving Day

Posted on October 9, 2024
By Andrea Macias, Paso del Norte Community Foundation

Each year, something remarkable happens in the Paso del Norte region — a day where the community comes together in support of nonprofit organizations and the causes that matter most. That day is El Paso Giving Day.

Established in 2016 by the Paso del Norte Community Foundation, El Paso Giving Day is designed to shine a light on the essential work of nonprofit organizations and ignite the spirit of giving among new and younger donors.

Since its inception, El Paso Giving Day has raised over $9 million for more than 200 nonprofit organizations with missions and programs focused on advocacy, animals, children and youth, environment, hunger, senior services, women’s issues, and many more.

For many of the participating nonprofits, this is their biggest – and sometimes only – major fundraising event of the year. And the best part? Every dollar raised stays right here in our community, directly benefiting the people who need it most.

“Through the generosity of our community during El Paso Giving Day, we have received crucial funding that directly supports our programs and initiatives across all 13 of our clubs,” said Evelyn Corral, director of field operations at Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso. “This vital support enables us to provide enriching opportunities and essential resources to young people who need them most, all at no cost to the families we serve.”

What’s even more inspiring is how El Paso Giving Day connects the community. It’s not just a fundraiser — it’s a celebration. You can feel the excitement in the air as people rally behind the nonprofits that they are most passionate about and help make our region stronger. Individuals, families, businesses, and more can come together, and make a minimum donation of $10 to make a lasting impact in our region.

And with more than $500,000 in available matching funds for selected nonprofits, your dollar can go even further.

“Participating in El Paso Giving Day is not just an act of charity; it is an investment in the future of our community. The support we receive directly contributes to the growth and success of our youth, empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. This collective effort strengthens the fabric of our community and ensures that every child has the opportunity to thrive,” Corral said.

This year, El Paso Giving Day takes place on Thursday, Oct. 17, with Early Giving from Oct. 10-16.

“Whether you are a first-time donor or repeat donor, there are more than 200 nonprofit organizations you can support. Notably, we’re soaring to new heights in celebration with the Amigo Airsho this giving season, aiming to raise $1.5 million for nonprofit organizations in the Paso del Norte region. Each donation, no matter the size, plays a role in building a brighter, healthier, and more prosperous future for the Paso del Norte community,” said Tracy Yellen, CEO of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation.

In the end, El Paso Giving Day is a beautiful reminder of the power of community. It shows how much good our communities can do when we come together with a shared purpose. And with every year, the movement grows stronger, creating a ripple effect of generosity that will shape the Paso del Norte region for years to come.
