El Paso Matters – Opinion: Renard Johnson has the vision, skills to lead El Paso as mayor

As El Paso stands at a pivotal crossroads, the importance of strong, visionary leadership has never been more apparent. With the challenges our community faces — ranging from economic stagnation to crumbling infrastructure to overwhelming brain drain of our brightest youth leaving El Paso — it’s clear that only one candidate has the solutions we need: Renard Johnson.

Johnson is not just a candidate; he is a dedicated public servant with deep roots in our community. His commitment to El Paso is evident in his years of service, serving on boards of directors across the city and employing nearly 800 people worldwide.

Johnson’s extensive experience in business, combined with his genuine passion for our city, uniquely positions him to lead us into a brighter future.

El Paso’s economic growth is the key for a better El Paso. Johnson understands that to foster economic development, we must invest in emerging sectors and existing local businesses. He has a comprehensive plan to support small businesses, create job opportunities, and attract new companies.

His focus on workforce development ensures that our residents are equipped with the skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow.

El Paso’s growth demands a robust infrastructure strategy. I believe Johnson is committed to upgrading our roads, public transportation and utilities, ensuring that our city can support its residents’ needs and the accompanying growth we need to build a better El Paso.

Furthermore, he champions sustainable practices that protect our environment while enhancing our quality of life. We deserve more entertainment, more recreation and more tourism. Johnson’s plan will make sure we not only have all of these, but through federal and state grants, and public-private partnerships, the cost doesn’t burden taxpayers.

Johnson’s track record speaks volumes. He has demonstrated an ability to bring people together, navigate complex challenges, and deliver results. His leadership style is characterized by transparency, accountability, and a deep respect for public input.

El Paso needs a mayor who listens, collaborates, and acts decisively — qualities that Renard embodies.

In this upcoming election, we have a choice to make: we can continue with the status quo or we can choose a leader who inspires hope and action. Johnson offers a vision for El Paso that is not only ambitious but also achievable.

As we look toward the future, let us choose a path of progress, unity and opportunity. Let’s rally behind Renard Johnson for mayor — a leader who will elevate El Paso and make our city a place we are all proud to call home.
