KTSM News – Guadalupe Mountains National Park to move cashless starting next month

Posted on October 24, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Beginning Monday, Nov. 25, Guadalupe Mountains National Park will transition to a fully cashless fee system and will only accept electronic card payments for entrance fees and campgrounds, the park announced in a news release.

You can also purchase the park’s per-person digital site pass, backcountry permits and advance campground reservations online at recreation.gov.

The park’s store inside the Pine Springs Visitor Center will still accept cash or card payments, according to the news release.

“Entrance fees are an important source of revenue national parks use to improve the visitor experience,” Theresa Moore, chief of interpretation, said. “Going cashless reduces the amount of time park staff spend handling cash and improves accountability while also reducing risk. Furthermore, moving to a cashless system helps the park manage visitor dollars more effectively.”

The park said fees are used for road and facility repairs and maintenance, trail improvements, accessibility improvements, visitor and resource protection services, and more.

More information about visiting the park can be found here. Information about fees and passes is available here.
