SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Tijuana firefighters rescued a small dog trapped in a 50-foot hole several days after passersby reported hearing the dog’s cries for help.
According to the El Sol Newspaper in Tijuana, residents in the area used social media to summon help for the animal.
On Tuesday night, firefighters responded and found the small dog at the bottom of what was described as a well under construction about 3 feet in diameter.
Personnel from the city’s civil protection also responded and rigged up an apparatus to lower and lift firefighters from the hole.
The rescue operation lasted about two hours according to Tijuana’s Fire Department.
When asked why it took so long for firefighters to respond, a department spokesperson said they had many other calls with higher priority.
The small dog, a gray and white pointer mix, appeared to be in good shape as it was pulled from the hole.
It was taken to an animal hospital for a checkup. No word on its condition.
