HARLINGEN, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Republican incumbent Monica De La Cruz and Democratic candidate Michelle Vallejo are running for the seat of U.S. Representative District 15 for the second time.
District 15 covers the entirety of Brooks, Jim Wells, Live Oak, Karnes and Willacy Counties and parts of Hidalgo and Guadalupe counties.
According to the unofficial results, De La Cruz is leading the polls with 23,301 votes against Vallejo who has a total of 7,946 votes.
De La Cruz and Vallejo first ran against each other in the 2022 election.
In 2022, De La Cruz was elected to office with 53.3% or 80,978 votes against Vallejo, who gathered a total of 44.8% or 68,097 votes.
If De La Cruz wins this will be her second term in office. However, if Vallejo takes the win, this will be her first term for the seat of U.S. Representative District 15.
Throughout De La Cruz’s campaign, she focused on reinstating immigration policies that were first introduced during the Trump administration.
During the entirety of Vallejo’s campaign, she focused on working to make health care affordable and accessible in the district.
