EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 67-year-old man is dead after a crash involving a Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office (DASO) unit on Monday evening, Nov. 4 along Interstate 25, according to the New Mexico State Police (NMSP).
At about 6:40 p.m. Nov. 4, NMSP responded to a two-vehicle crash with injuries on I-25 southbound near mile post 5.
The initial investigation revealed an SUV, driven by a 57-year-old woman, was traveling northbound on I-25 when she decided to turn around in the median and head southbound, according to NMSP.
NMSP said a DASO unit occupied by two deputies was traveling southbound with emergency lights and sirens activated. For “unknown reasons” the SUV pulled out in front of the deputy, causing the deputy to rear-end the SUV.
A passenger in the SUV, Ismael Misquez, 67, was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries, according to NMSP.
NMSP said the SUV driver was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
DASO deputies were also transported to be treated for their injuries, according to NMSP.
This crash is being investigated by the NMSP with assistance from the NMSP Vehicular Crimes Unit.
