KTSM News – EP Chamber, DEA to partner in Star on Mountain lighting this weekend

Posted on November 8, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Star on the Mountain will shine purple in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to raise awareness about the dangers of fentanyl.

The lighting will happen on Saturday, Nov. 9 and will serve as “a community-wide call to understand the dangers of fentanyl and recognize the devastating impact this powerful drug has on individuals and families,” according to the El Paso Chamber in a news release.

The El Paso Chamber and the DEA, through the lighting, will hope to promote vigilance, awareness and potentially life-saving knowledge of the opioid crisis with a high rise in fentanyl-related deaths across the nation, according to the El Paso Chamber.

“Fentanyl awareness is more critical now than ever,” the El Paso Chamber Director of Programs and Community Outreach Claudia Rosales said. “We are honored to collaborate with the DEA to light the Star in purple as a symbol of our commitment to addressing this crisis. Our hope is that this initiative will inspire our community to come together in pursuit of a safer, healthier future.”

The El Paso Chamber said the Star on the Mountain shining purple will stand as a tribute to “those affected by fentanyl and as an urgent reminder for El Pasoans to stay informed and support each other in the fight against opioid abuse.”

For more information about the Star on the Mountain and how you can dedicate a lighting, you can contact the El Paso Chamber at (915) 534-0550 or visit their website here.
