EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The new Civivi Yonder pocket knife just may be a little bit of EDC perfection.
The knife, which was released in the past few months, is getting a lot of buzz and online content creators and others in the knife community say it could very well be considered the “knife of the year.”
I’m not sure if the title “knife of the year” is really a thing or some kind of mythical title, but the Civivi Yonder is that good.
My good friend Mark, the creative force behind the Pocket Razors YouTube channel, surprised me by sending me a Yonder with black G10 handles, saying it just seemed to have “my name on it.”
Have to confess, I have been carrying it around nonstop since.

It was designed by Zac Whitmore, whom many people know from the Zac in the Wild YouTube channel. As an EDC enthusiast, Zac seemingly designed a nearly perfect knife for everyday carry.
The Yonder comes in just a tad under 6 ¾ inches when open with a 2.88-inch blade, making it legal in most places across the country.
It comes in at just under 2 ¾ ounces in weight and features a super slicey cleaver-type blade. The Civivi website calls it a “spey point” blade.
The knife can be opened with thumb studs on either side of the blade and uses a crossbar lock. I am a “slow roller” kind of guy and am not very adept at flicking these modern knives open, but even I can easily open it and close it with just one hand.
The knife handle is about 3 ¾ inches. I don’t have the biggest hands in the world, but it is perfect for me to get a four-finger grip on it. There is jimping (small notches) on the top of the blade that allows you to choke up a bit and get some added control.
Like I said, my first impression is this is a little bit of EDC pocket perfection, especially with its sturdy pocket clip that you can’t feel when you grip the knife when using it. A lot of times the pocket clip can create a hotspot that digs into your hand. This knife doesn’t seem to have that at all.

Just a note here: I have really come to the conclusion that I am not a knife reviewer. Rather, I am a knife collector, enthusiast and like to talk and write about them.
So, take whatever opinions I have with a grain of salt.
For the uninitiated, Civivi is part of the WE Knife family. This Chinese company has three brands – with WE being the priciest and Sencut the most affordable. Civivi is the middle brand.
The Yonder in black G10 is currently listed on the Civivi website for $67. You might check other online knife retailers like my personal favorite, Chicago Knife Works, to see what kind of deals you might be able to find.
Here is a link to the Civivi Yonder with G10 handles (a high-pressure fiberglass laminate). It comes in a couple of other flavors – micarta for around $70 and guibourtia wood, also known as African rosewood, and a Damascus steel blade for $94.
Mine came with a nice eyeglass-type carrying case, some stickers and a micofiber cloth for cleaning it. All a nice touch.

Here is a link to the Pocket Razors channel. Mark at Pocket Razors makes excellent, down-to-earth content primarily on modern folders with an emphasis on Benchmade, Jack Wolf Knives and Rosecraft.
Remember, I tend to be a traditional guy with my holy trinity of Buck, Victorinox and Cold Steel. But I do enjoy the Pocket Razor channel and checking out some of the latest and greatest from the modern knife world.
Here are some other YouTube channels I watch regularly to stay up on EDC and knives, listed in no particular order.
