Posted on November 15, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 17-year-old boy is dead after he collided with a utility pole while driving early Friday morning, Nov. 15, in El Paso’s Upper Valley, according to El Paso Police.

1 seriously injured after Upper Valley crash

Police say Robert Menchaca, 17, was driving just after midnight on Friday and was traveling west on the 600 block of Mulberry in a Jeep Wrangler.

For unknown reasons, Menchaca drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with a utility pole, according to police.

Police say there was an “unknown” female passenger who was inside the Jeep who left the scene.

Menchaca was transported to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

Failure to maintain a lane of travel was the contributing factor in this crash, according to police.

The El Paso Police Department is asking anyone who has information on this crash to call (915) 832-4400 (non-emergency) or Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-8477 to remain anonymous.

This is the 58th fatality this year compared to 69 last year.
