Posted on November 15, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Center for Diabetes (EPCD) recognized Dr. Efren “Buff” De La Rosa’s $60,000 donation by naming one of the three new consultation rooms in his honor on Friday, Nov. 15.

A small ceremony was held on Nov. 15 at the EPCD’s new building site to recognize De La Rosa for his donation which includes $50,000 to name one consultation room and $10,000 for personalized bricks that will line the entrance of the building called the “Pathway of Hope”, according to the news release by the center.

De La Rosa is a board-certified podiatrist, the founder of The Foot Institute, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the EPCD, the center said.

“I am honored to support the El Paso Center for Diabetes with this donation,” De La Rosa said. “Throughout my career, I have served and been affiliated with many organizations, but my 25 years as an honorary board member with the Center for Diabetes are what I am most proud of.

“In my podiatry practice, I treat many patients with diabetes, and caring for them and treating their foot concerns has become a cornerstone of my practice. The services the Center provides to the community are truly essential, and I am proud to be able to contribute to their future success in such a meaningful way,” De La Rosa said.

EPCD broke ground on its newest location in May 2024, which features a spacious classroom, a teaching kitchen, a private intake room, and a healing garden.

“I am so grateful for everything Dr. De La Rosa has helped us accomplish throughout the years,” Sandra Gonzalez, CEO of EPCD said. “He has demonstrated his care and dedication to our mission through the many ways he’s served the Center, from sharing his knowledge and expertise as a member of our Executive Board and our Medical Advisory Committee, to his significant contributions to our annual fundraisers like the Golf Tournament and Gala.

“It is an honor to be able to recognize his many contributions today, and I look forward to seeing his name on one of our consult rooms in the new building this coming Spring,” Gonzalez said.

EPCD is available for services at its current location at 3641 Mattox St. and the new building is set to open in Spring 2025.
