EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Hundreds of West El Paso customers are experiencing low water pressure or no water service as El Paso Water crews work to assess and repair a main leak near the intersection of Ojo de Agua Drive and Via Descanso Drive, the utility announced on Tuesday morning, Dec. 3 in a news release.
The El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) announced that Lundy Elementary, Tippin Elementary, and Hornedo Middle School will be closed on Dec. 3.
EPWater crews responded immediately on Monday afternoon, Dec. 2 and started the process of excavating over 20 feet to reach the 30-inch diameter water line, according to the news release.
“It is a deep and complicated excavation and it’s important that it is done safely,” said Gilbert Trejo, vice president of Operations and Technical Services. “We are now assessing the leak to repair the pipe and restore service as quickly as possible.”
“We apologize for the inconvenience, especially because it’s not clear how long the repairs will take,” Trejo said.
To help customers during this time, EPWater is providing two drinking water trucks for impacted residents in the following areas:
Ojo de Agua and Via Descanso
High Ridge and Via Serena
The utility said customers are asked to take their own containers to fill which can be used for handwashing, brushing teeth, flushing toilets, etc. Water gallons will also be available.
EPWater has not identified the cause of the main leak.
