EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) announced on Wednesday, Dec. 4, that it has been recognized along with 11 other Texas school districts for its “groundbreaking” program by the Texas School Business magazine’s 18th Annual Bragging Rights 2024-25 special issue.
The Annual Bragging Rights special issue “highlights school districts across Texas that have implemented exceptional programs improving the lives of students, schools, and communities,” EPISD said in a news release.
Trend Walks is EPISD’s initiative to enhance safety, engagement, and student well-being while ensuring the district’s academic initiatives are making a meaningful impact, the district said.
“Trend Walks are a vital tool for ensuring our academic initiatives are making a meaningful impact in the classroom,” chief academic officer of EPISD Al Garcia said. “By partnering with principals and staff, we can identify successes, address challenges, and provide the support needed to foster growth and improve outcomes for all students.”
During Trend Walks, campus administrators and staff visit classrooms, hallways, and other areas to “observe patterns in behavior, identify emerging trends, and gather insights to inform proactive decision-making,” EPISD said.
Walks with the students encourage real-time problem solving, promote collaboration between educators and students, and provide an opportunity to highlight successes or support where needed, EPISD said.
The following Texas school districts, including EPISD, were honored for their initiatives:
Conroe ISD, Winter Catalog
Corpus Christi ISD, All Kids Bike
Ector County ISD, Principal Interns
El Paso ISD, Trend Walks
Gregory-Portland ISD, PAWSitive Praise and Wildcat Walks
Katy ISD, Commercial Drivers License Program
Little Elm ISD, REFRAME
Pasadena ISD, Stream Team
Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, National Board Professional Teaching Certification
United ISD, United Against Vaping
Veribest ISD, Self-Defense Program
Waxahachie ISD, Innovative Teaching Coalition
“Nominations for school district programs across Texas poured in this year, and each one deserves to be noticed,” Texas School Business Editorial Director Dacia Rivers said. “It’s our hope that the 12 districts we chose inspire others to follow in their footsteps. The mission of Texas School Business is to share the good news happening in Texas public schools, and there’s never a shortage of newsworthy school programs for us to cover.”
