EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Obi, the first giraffe born at the El Paso Zoo, is leaving for the Dallas Zoo next week, the El Paso Zoo said on its Facebook page on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
The one-and-a-half-year-old male giraffe was born on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, to his mom Gigi, who is a fully reticulated giraffe, the El Paso Zoo said.
The El Paso Zoo has been working to ensure the safeguarding of giraffes from extinction through the Species Survival Plan.
El Paso Zoo said Obi will be heading to Dallas Zoo to begin his own family.
