KTSM News – The Salvation Army seeks donations, volunteers this holiday season

Posted on December 5, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – With the Christmas season in full swing, The Salvation Army of El Paso is calling on the community for support to ensure people in need can experience the joys of the holiday season.

The Salvation Army said donations and volunteers are “urgently needed to meet the increasing demand for assistance.”

The community’s help is needed in the following areas, according to The Salvation Army in a news release:

Donate turkeys for Christmas

The Salvation Army seeks 330 turkeys to provide families in the Angel Tree program with a complete holiday meal.

The Angel Tree program, a need-based initiative, offers toys and clothing for children ages 0-10 and includes a turkey for each registered family to prepare a festive holiday meal.

Donations of fresh or frozen turkeys can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Family Center, 4300 E Paisano Drive, from now through December.

Volunteer to “ring the bell”

Volunteer bell ringers are essential to the success of the Red Kettle Campaign, a tradition that raises funds to support local families in crisis with food, shelter, and homeless prevention services year-round.

Volunteers can sign up as individuals or with groups, selecting their preferred date and location.

Myriam Guerrero, advisory board vice chair, encourages the community to get involved.

“Come spend some time volunteering and make a meaningful impact on the lives of countless individuals this holiday season. We have volunteer opportunities tailored just for you, whether you come as an individual or group,” Guerrero said.

All funds collected through the Red Kettle Campaign remain local, directly supporting community programs such as food and shelter.

Support the food pantry

Food insecurity remains a pressing issue in the community. The Salvation Army’s food pantry provides essential meal supplementation, helping families maintain independence and dignity.

Donations of canned and nonperishable food items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army Family Center at 4300 E Paisano Drive.
