EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A former co-owner of a Las Cruces daycare was arrested again on Wednesday, Dec. 4, after being released from jail back in May for criminal sexual contact of a minor, jail records show.
Juan Jose Cardiel, 79, was arrested on Dec. 4 and is facing a criminal sexual contact of a minor charge with no bond.
Cardiel was previously arrested by the Las Cruces Police Department on Wednesday, May 1, and was charged with four counts of criminal sexual contact with an unclothed child which reportedly happened at the daycare from Jan. 1 through April. The victim told a forensics interviewer that she was four years old when the alleged incidents happened, according to court documents.
He was released from jail on Tuesday, May 7 on a $7,500 secured bond, according to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
As we previously reported, an investigation of alleged sexual abuse at Cardiel Childhood Services, located at 5532 Century Lane in Las Cruces, led to the suspension of the license for the daycare facility.
The daycare was owned by Lorena Cardiel and Juan Cardiel, who was listed as the secondary care provider.
