EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 64-year-old woman has died after a hit-and-run crash late Thursday night, Dec. 5, in El Paso’s Lower Valley, according to El Paso Police.
Police say they responded at around 10 p.m. Thursday to the 5300 block of North Loop about a two-vehicle crash.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 64-year-old woman who was traveling in a Toyota Corolla had been ejected from her vehicle and later died after she was struck by another vehicle which fled the scene.
Police say the woman was traveling east on North Loop just after Hawkins when she began to make a U-turn to head west on North Loop.
At the same time, a 2006 Chevy Traverse was speeding westbound on North Loop and struck the Toyota Corolla, causing the woman to be ejected from the vehicle.
The driver in the Chevy Traverse continued driving until the SUV became disabled just past the intersection of Hawkins, police said.
The driver then fled on foot from the scene, police said. The woman was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries, according to police.
Police say the contributing factors in this collision are speed on behalf of the SUV and failure to yield to traffic on behalf of the woman.
Police is asking anyone with information on this crash to contact them at (915) 832-4400 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers of El Paso at (915) 566-TIPS (8477).
This is the 64th traffic fatality inside the City limits compared to 75 at the same time last year.
