EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 74-year-old woman is getting ready to graduate this month from El Paso Community College (EPCC).
Elsa Quintero, 74, will be graduating with a certification from EPCC’s Cosmetology Department with the opportunity to get licensed with the State of Texas, EPCC said. She has also completed EPCC’s nail program.

Quintero is also the oldest graduate under Cosmetology Program Coordinator Cecilia Dominguez.
“She has been a pleasure having around and has taught me that you’re never too old to learn a new trade,” Cecilia Dominguez said.
Quintero has a Bachelors in Business and a Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix. EPCC says she left her job at the Job Corps in the Academics Department teaching English and Math to tend to her parents, and a close friend.
“I have four boys, and what do they think? They think I’m crazy,” Quintero said. “Mom, you have to quit, Mom you have to stay home. No no no leave me alone, this is my time. I took care of you guys, took care of everybody else, now it’s time to take care of me.”
EPCC’s Fall 2024 Commencement will take place this Friday, Dec. 13, located at the UTEP Don Haskins Center. Three ceremonies will be taking place at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m.
