EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The City of El Paso has completed the reconstruction and widening of Rojas Drive in East El Paso, the City announced in a press release on Friday, Dec. 13.
The $12.9 million project “enhances connectivity and safety for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists while supporting the City’s commitment to a robust regional transportation system,” the City said.
The project reconstructed and widened Rojas Drive between Joe Battle Boulevard and Bill Burnett Drive, expanding it from a four-lane roadway to a six-lane divided road.
“These upgrades aim to reduce traffic congestion, improve traffic flow, and accommodate the growing transportation needs of the area,” the City said.
A shared-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians was also installed, providing alternative modes of transportation for the community. New landscaping and an irrigation system were also added, as well as improvements to the water and stormwater systems.
The City also installed new traffic signals, medians, street illumination, signs and striping, which will increase roadway safety for pedestrians and motorists.
“This project is part of the City of El Paso’s commitment to enhance our comprehensive regional transportation system,” the City said.
