KTSM News – James Montoya sworn in as El Paso County district attorney

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – James Montoya was sworn in on Wednesday, Jan. 1, as the new El Paso County district attorney.

Montoya took over his social media to announce he officially became the new district attorney in a “small private ceremony” in Central El Paso.

U.S. District Judge David C. Guaderrama administered the oath of office, according to the social media post.

In addition, a swearing-in ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, at the Ceremonial Courtroom of the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse, for the personnel of the DA’s Office.

“I want express my gratitude to former DA Bill Hicks for facilitating our transition the past several weeks, which will allow us to hit the ground running on the very important work we have ahead in keeping El Paso safe and ensuring that our criminal courts deliver the justice our community wants and deserves,” Montoya said.

Montoya, a Democrat, beat incumbent Republican Bill Hicks in the Nov. 5 general election.
