EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Jackie Arroyo Butler will be sworn in as El Paso County’s newest commissioner for Precinct 1 on Friday morning, Jan. 3.
Judge Lisa Soto of the Texas Eighth Court of Appeals will administer the oath of office at a ceremony at 10 a.m. on Jan. 3, at the Montana Vista Fire Rescue Station located at 13978 Montana Ave., El Paso County said in a news release.
Democrat Arroyo Buttler was elected in the Nov. 5 general election after defeating two other challengers in the race.
Arroyo Butler will succeed Commissioner Carlos Leon, who retired after 12 years on Commissioners Court.
Arroyo Butler will be an advocate for investing and upgrading infrastructure for the Eastside, fostering economic and business development, as well as promoting sustainable and quality development for Eastside neighborhoods, according to the news release.
The El Paso County Commissioners Court includes the county judge and four commissioners who oversee the management and operation of county government, including budgeting, tax rates, land use and infrastructure maintenance, and public services, the County said.
Precinct 1 represents the fast-growing Eastside and includes everything north of I-10 and Loop 375 from McRae to Montana Vista and Hueco Tanks.
