EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — New Mexico State Police issued more than 1,200 traffic citations and made 25 arrests for DWI across the state during a special traffic enforcement operation over the New Year’s holiday.
The New Mexico State Police conducted what they called a Combined Accident Reduction Effort (C.A.R.E), which was conducted across all roadways in the state from Dec. 31 through Jan. 2.
“The initiative aims to enhance motorist safety and decrease the number of crashes by maintaining a strong law enforcement presence,” New Mexico State Police said.
The operation was conducted across all 12 State Police districts in New Mexico.
Included in the citations, State Police issued 54 for failure to wear seat belts.
State Police also investigated 16 crashes and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau conducted 30 commerical vehicle inspections.
“New Mexico State Police remains dedicated to creating safer roadways for all motorists in New Mexico. NMSP officers will continue to carry out holiday travel operations throughout the year. NMSP encourages the public to drive safely and adhere to all traffic laws while traveling on New Mexico’s roads,” New Mexico State Police said.
