KTSM News – Man arrested, extradited to El Paso after deadly stabbing

Posted on January 7, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 27-year-old woman is dead, and a 30-year-old man was arrested and extradited from Reeves County to El Paso following a weekend stabbing at a home in East El Paso County near Horizon City, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO) said.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is calling it a case of family or domestic violence.

EPCSO said at approximately 3:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, deputies responded to a report of family violence occurring at the 600 block of Zinc Place.

Upon arrival, deputies noticed the suspect, later identified as Jorge Albert Chavez, 30, leaving the scene in pickup truck. Deputies communicated Chavez’s information to assisting law-enforcement agencies, EPCSO said.

EPCSO said that at the residence, deputies found Dafne Michelle Davila, 27, stabbed and severely injured.

Davila was taken to a local hospital where she died from her injuries, EPCSO said.

In a combined effort between the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Texas Rangers and the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office, authorities located and apprehended Chavez, EPCSO said. In the initial news release issued over the weekend, the Sheriff’s Office said he was apprehended along Interstate 20.

EPCSO Fugitive Apprehension Unit then extradited Chavez from the Reeves County Sheriff’s Office to El Paso where he was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for murder with a $1 million bond.

Reeves County is located about 200 miles east of El Paso.

“This tragedy reminds us of the devastating impact domestic violence has on our community. Thanks to the strong collaboration between our partnering agencies, we were able to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect. If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please seek help — there are resources available to provide support and safety,” Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said.
