KTSM News – Snow showers taper off by midnight, extreme cold Saturday morning — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on January 9, 2025

Run out and take a picture of the white-tipped Franklin Mountains early Friday morning because the sunshine will be coming out and melting it quickly tomorrow. My biggest concern at this point is two extremely cold nights. Yes, we’ll see on and off snow showers before midnight, but we will drop to 25 tonight with cold winds. We will be even colder on Saturday morning. Here’s your 9-Hour Forecast with your 9-Day Forecast below.

Our Weather Watchers have been busy today. We thank them very much.

TONIGHT:    KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert for bitter cold temperatures as well as a chance for snow showers on and off until midnight. The skies will be overcast with cold wind gusts from the N at 10-20 mph.  The low will drop to 25 with a wind chill factor that will feel like 20.

FORECAST:  A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for the entire Borderland until Friday 5 AM.  In total by Friday morning, El Paso could receive between 1 to 2 inches at the surface, with additional accumulations on the peaks of the Franklin Mountains.  Friday will start out cloudy and cold before clearing that afternoon.  Friday’s high will be 42, and the NW winds will be gusty and chilly.  NW winds will range from 10-20 mph, stronger on the east slopes.  Friday night, the winds die down. Saturday morning will be clear and extremely cold with a low 17 at the airport, 14 in the valley.  Saturday will end up sunny and breezy with a high of 51. On Sunday, a mild cold front blows in dropping the high to 47.  The west slopes will experience some chilly gusts. Monday will be sunny and 54.  Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a high of 56. Wednesday will be partly cloudy and 60. Thursday will turn mostly cloudy late in the day with a high of 62.
