EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Oscar Renee Sandoval, the man accused of fatally shooting his wife back in April 2024 in Mesilla, New Mexico, was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault, according to the Doña Ana District Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
As KTSM previously reported, on April 1, 2024, Sandoval, 59, shot and killed his wife Shiereen Al-Jibury, 39, on University Avenue.
Sandoval also threatened a witness with a gun and fled the scene, the DA’s Office said.
Sandoval’s vehicle was found in Sunland Park, and he was later apprehended in Juarez, Mexico on Tuesday, April 9, the DA’s Office said. Sandoval was subsequently extradited to U.S. Marshals the following day.
“It’s a good day for justice. Our hearts go out to everybody who was affected by this horrible
act,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Melissa Garcia said.
“I’m so thankful that we were able to get justice for the community and the families that were touched by this tragedy,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Spencer Willson said.
