KTSM News – El Pasoans protest, welcome Trump’s return to White House

Posted on January 20, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – President Donald Trump was inaugurated on Monday, Jan. 20 and officially began his second term in office.

He signed a slew of executive orders on his first day of his second administration, with at least 10 of those related to immigration.

During Trump’s inauguration, some El Pasoans gathered to protest against his proposed policies including those dealing with immigration.

“He’s talking about mass deportation. It is going to spread fear and panic, among those communities. But we’re also concerned as U.S. citizens that his talk about ignoring the 14th Amendment that guarantees birthright citizenship, and we think that is totally unconstitutional,” protestor Oscar Lozano said.

Others, however, were excited to see Trump back in the White House.

“Building that wall, making sure that, El Paso and all of America is safe. We are obviously a border town that welcomes individuals into our United States. We like to welcome them legally,” said Robyn Cooper, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee representing El Paso County.
