EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Segundo Barrio native and WWE superstar Cinta de Oro is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of El Paso (BGCEP) to bring monthly lucha libre events to help promote vital programs for local children.
The partnership’s press conference was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the BGCEP, located at 801 S. Florence St.
The lucha libre series will launch in March with “The Ides of March” in Downtown El Paso, according to the news release by Cinta de Oro Promotion and the BGCEP.
The series is a family-friendly entertainment and shines a spotlight on the importance of the BGCEP and its role in empowering young lives, according to the news release.
According to the news release, all funds raised during the events will be used for repairs and enhancements for the Club’s education programming and ensuring “youth continue to thrive in a safe and nurturing environment.”
“The Boys & Girls Clubs of El Paso is thrilled to welcome home Cinta de Oro, a former club kid who followed his dream and rose through the ranks of lucha libre,” CEO of BGCEP Anthony Tomasheski said. “This dynamic partnership highlights our collective commitment to the children of our community and exemplifies our motto that great futures start here.”
According to the news release, Cinta de Oro was born and raised in El Paso’s Segundo Barrio and is globally known for his persona as a WWE wrestler Sin Cara.
“The Boys & Girls Club played a key role in shaping who I am today. This is my opportunity to give back to the neighborhood that inspired my journey and to ensure the next generation has the support they need to dream big,” Cinta de Oro said.
