EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Officials in Juarez, Mexico, on Friday were supervising repairs to a tent complex meant to process and temporarily house migrants deported from the United States.
Strong winds Wednesday night and Thursday morning knocked down or damaged some of the tarps making up five massive tents near the Juarez soccer stadium. The tents already had electrical hookups and some furniture like beds, which were mostly spared by the winds.
The damage was confined to the tarps, which are being put back in place or replaced, the city’s Civil Protection Office told Border Report news partner ProVideo.
The complex known as Mexico Te Abraza (Mexico Embraces You) migrant reception center is scheduled to open next week. It can accommodate up to 2,500 people and is meant to provide services primarily to Mexican migrants including quick medical checkups, meals, and bus tickets to their home states.
