EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Downtown Arts District has been nominated for “best arts district” in the nation by USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

“This nomination highlights El Paso’s dynamic arts and culture scene and the creative energy that makes our community special,” said Ben Fyffe, the City of El Paso’s Quality of Life managing director. “Every week, residents and visitors experience vibrant performances, exhibitions, workshops, and cultural programming within the District. We will continue working to ensure the arts remain accessible and engaging for all.”
Nominees for the Best Arts District were “carefully selected by USA Today editors and a panel of arts and travel experts, with winners determined by the public through the four-week online voting process,” the City said in a news release.
The USA Today10Best Readers’ Choice Awards highlight top attractions and businesses, offering recommendations on travel, culture, and entertainment across the nation, the City said.
About the El Paso Downtown Arts District
The El Paso Downtown Arts District was designated by the Texas Commission on the Arts in October 2011. With visitation of 2.2 million annually, the Downtown Arts District has a projected economic impact of $7 million in hotel/motel revenue and $28.2 million in local restaurant and bar revenue, according to the City.
The District is anchored by institutions including the El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso Museum of History, the Plaza Theater, and Southwest University Park along with the newly opened La Nube STEAM Discovery Center and upcoming Mexican American Cultural Center, which is scheduled to open March 22.
