NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Prosecutors have added two additional charges to a former New Mexico State men’s basketball player suspected in a hazing and sexual assault scandal. They have also added another victim in the case. In 2023, a grand jury indicted former Aggie player Deshawndre Washington on 13 charges related to the scandal.
Washington, along with two other former players, is accused of sexually assaulting teammates and student managers with two other players during the 2022-2023 season. The two players who originally came forward settled a civil lawsuit against the school in 2024.
The school and Washington, Kim Aiken Jr., Doctor Bradley, former Head Coach Gregg Heiar, and former Athletic Director Mario Moccia are still facing a lawsuit from a former player and two unnamed individuals.
In an amended indictment, Washington is now facing 15 charges related to the case with another former player being named as a victim of the sexual assaults. KRQE News 13 is not naming the former player.
Washington is scheduled to go to trial in April.
