Posted on February 3, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 35-year-old El Pasoan was killed in what is being called a “chain-reaction” crash on Friday, Jan. 31 along Interstate 10 in Las Cruces, New Mexico State Police said.

At about 4 p.m. on Friday, New Mexico State Police were sent out to a multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 10 West near mile marker 140 (the Mesilla turnoff).

Officers found two passenger vehicles and two semi-trucks were involved in the crash.

The initial investigation indicated that a semi-truck “triggered a chain reaction crash” as it entered a construction zone and rear-ended a passenger vehicle, State Police said.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, identified as Josie Cardona, 35, of El Paso, died at the scene, State Police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
