EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Doña Ana County Fire Rescue (DARF) hosted and led the National Fire Protection Agency 1400 fire drill training program on Friday, Feb. 7.
Instructors from the International Society of Fire Service provided critical skills and knowledge to other departments in the region, DARF said.
The departments that attended the training included DAFR, Las Cruces Fire, Mesilla Fire, Sunland Park Fire and Fort Bliss Fire.
According to DARF, the training focused on developing hands-on, scenario-based exercises that aligned with National Fire Protection Agency standards.
In addition, participants also learned key strategies for compliance and risk management to ensure that the instructors are equipped to implement safe and effective training practices with their agencies, the department said.
DAFR also offered a one-hour session “Reaching Today’s Learner: Microlearning for the Fire Service” led by DAFR Deputy Chief Yvonne Feijoo.
The department said the session addressed the varying learning preferences across generations within the fire service workplace. Participants learned strategies for delivering short, targeted microlearning sessions that will help enhance their fire skills while maximizing training efficiency.
“By enhancing their skills through this continued professional development, these agencies are strengthening their ability to translate safe, efficient training practices into active emergency response on the ground,” the department said.
