Police say at around 11:30 p.m. that Thursday, they were on patrol and traveling west on Alameda Street when they saw an F-150 pickup truck parked in the middle of the road at the 8300 block of Roseway.

As officers approached the vehicle, they saw Contreras in the driver’s seat of the F-150 and Sandoval underneath an F-250 pickup truck that was parked in the area. Contreras then honked the horn to alert Sandoval, according to police.

Police say Sandoval then fled from officers on foot. A K-9 officer was called to the scene to assist in locating Sandoval.

Sandoval was later located and was placed under arrest. Contreras was also placed under arrest at the scene.

The investigation determined that Sandoval was in the process of cutting out the catalytic converter of the F-250 pickup truck when officers approached both men.

Both men were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Sandoval was booked under a $20,000 bond and Contreras was booked under a $10,000 bond.
