BOCA CHICA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. signed an order allowing for Starbase to move forward in the process to become a city.
On Dec. 12, 2024, Cameron County received an incorporation petition for the SpaceX inhabited area in Boca Chica, known as Starbase, to become a Type-C municipality formally called as Starbase, Texas.
After review from Judge Treviño, the Elections Administrator and Commissioners County Civil Legal, the order was signed and deemed satisfactory in providing proof of support for the petition.
The incorporation petition submitted was signed by at least 10% of the qualified voters of
Starbase, Texas, according to the county’s news release.
Additionally, the release states that the petition satisfied the requirements of residents living in the area and that the area to be incorporated is not part of another incorporated city or town.
“Since the submitted petition met all statutory requirements, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr. is required under Section 8.009 of the Texas Local Government Code to order that an incorporation election be held on a specific date and at a designate place in the community,” the release stated.
The election is set to occur during the general election from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3 at the “HUB,” located at 39046 LBJ Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78521.
Early voting will take place at this same location from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, through Friday, April 25, on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 28 through 29 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
“If the election passes, this will be the newest town in Cameron County since Los Indios in 1995.
We look forward to seeing the outcome of this election,” Treviño said.
