KTSM News – A day without dust, a Valentine’s Day with lots of it — Your 9-Day Forecast

Posted on February 12, 2025

What a strange night last night was. On the west side, the winds were not all that bad. On the east side, it remained gusty, dusty, and miserable almost all night. The peak gust for today happened around 1 AM, and it was 60 mph!! That is a powerful gust! Our Weather Watcher Tom Macak took this incredible picture of the Organ Mountains this morning. Look at the color!! Well, at least dust is good for colorful skies.

Are you ready for a day off from blowing dust? Yes, I thought so. Here’s your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast for Thursday.

TONIGHT:    A cold front is blowing into the Borderland tonight.  The NW winds will gust near 40 mph with the strongest gusts on the east slopes of the mountains.  A dusty haze will hang over the region until early in the evening, but unlike last night, the winds will slowly die down to near calm by morning.  The low will drop to 40.

FORECAST:   Thursday will be partly to mostly cloudy with lighter winds and a high of 65.  The south-SE winds will range from 5-15 mph, and we’ll all enjoy a day off from blowing dust.  On Valentine’s Day Friday, the morning will start out mostly clear with light winds.  By afternoon, the SW winds will be gusting to 40 mph, which will stir up a dusty haze.  Friday’s high: 73.  Saturday will be partly cloudy with gusty winds and a dusty haze.  The winds turn cooler with gusts near 45 mph.  Saturday’s high: 63.   Sunday will be sunny and 70, an absolutely beautiful day.  Sunday’s winds will be light and variable at 5-10 mph. Monday will be partly cloudy and 73.  Tuesday will be partly cloudy and 72. The afternoon winds become moderate on Tuesday.  Wednesday will bring gusty winds to the west side with a mild cool front.  Wednesday’s high: 66.
