BOCA CHICA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — A U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in a use-of-force incident on Wednesday evening.
According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, at approximately 7 p.m., an agent from the Fort Brown Station was responding to suspected smuggling activity where the agent discharged his service-issued weapon.
One person sustained a gunshot wound and received medical attention.
CBP says the agent was not injured.
The incident is under investigation.
Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino says the department is assisting the FBI in the case.
Trevino also says a portion of Highway 4 is currently closed while an investigation is underway.
