KTSM News – Earthquake felt in El Paso late Friday night

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — An earthquake could be felt in El Paso a little after 10 p.m. Friday night, Feb. 14.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, there was a 4.9 earthquake about 30 miles north of Toyah, Texas in Reeves County.

Reeves County is about 200 miles east of El Paso.

Other earthquake measuring sites on the Internet listed the earthquake as a 5 and had it centered in Pecos, Texas. Pecos is also about 200 miles east of El Paso.

Viewers said they felt it in Las Cruces and La Mesa, New Mexico.

The National Weather Service in El Paso tweeted out: “Anyone else feel the earthquake? Looks like a magnitude 4.9 and am assuming the ‘aftershock’ was 2.6.”

NWS also cited the U.S. Geological Survey that the earthquakered was centered in Toyah.
