EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 32-year-old man was arrested after shooting another man on Sunday, Feb. 16, in South-Central El Paso, El Paso Police Department (EPPD) said.
Efren Martinez, 32, from Socorro, was arrested on Monday, Feb. 17, and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with a $100,000 bond.
EPPD said that at 5:40 p.m. on Feb. 16, officers responded to the 6700 block of Sambrano Avenue for a shots-fired call.
As officers were on their way, they received information that a black SUV had left the scene. Officers found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop where they located the 22-year-old victim who had been shot, EPPD said.
EPPD said fire medical services were requested to take the victim to a local hospital.
Through the investigation, EPPD identified Martinez as the shooter.
Martinez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Initially, EPPD said three people were injured after the shooting. However, EPPD later sent an update saying the 22-year-old victim was the only person listed as injured.
